  • OBJECTS AND COLLECTIVE ACTIONS OF LINA BO BARDI

The complex creative work of Lina Bo Bardi is a response to European modernity from Brazil, differentiating itself from other works in the new expressive tools used and in the importance of collectiveness in public spaces.

Objects and Collective Actions of Lina Bo Bardi shows, first, the work of Lina Bo Bardi from a new perspective-the social- deduced from her life experience with a clear didactic, then, from this new dimension, the game is discovered as the design mechanism by Lina Bo Bardi to use the architectural fact as inducer of collective action.

Both approaches delimit the research area, to focus the study to some architectures that inhabit the game, understood here as an object from its social and educational dimension, one that allows the relationship with others and learning.

The investigation continues with a fascinating journey from the hands of different authors who used the game as a mechanism for investigation. The result shows that game, far from being limited to a dimension of fun or entertainment, is spread in multiple dimensions, including this paper highlights: the educational, cultural, aesthetic exploration and collective communication.

Objects and Collective Actions of Lina Bo Bardi, from these premises, in the third and last part of the thesis, choose four collective toys - "Pocholon", "Dodecaedro",  “Pequeño tren de Carritos” (Little train of carts) and " Grande Vaca Mecânica” (Great Mechanic Cow)- and the public spaces of São Paulo, in which they lived -the Office Theatre; the Centre for Leisure, Culture and Sports SESC Pompéia, and the Museum de Arte de São Paulo MASP-with a double aim: First, to show that the idea of toy and game is a precursor of the complex bobardian work and, second, to present these objects from the didactic and communities as residents of these architectures.

These four objects of the bobardiana work are confronted and understood as collective toys, and develop arguments to justify this definition. The analysis of the four architectural projects in which the toys lived-a kind of dialogue between objects and spaces-, results from the comparison of architectural programs, always starting from the original sketches of Lina Bo Bardi, and ending the study with in contemporary reality check. Collective actions, through which users engage in public spaces they inhabit objects, participate in a positive spirit. Her work is fully reveal when the observer is involved and becomes creator. For Lina, architecture was not a utopia but a means to achieve certain collective goals.
