ILO-CAL, located in Iloilo, Philippines, rehabilitates the old central market. The new architecture connects it with the university through a new educational and clinical program focusing on postcolonial and environmental research, while maintaining its market use. The building expands thanks to traditional architectural elements crafted with contemporary techniques and materials. The mixed structure, resilient to typhoons, utilizes native wood and concrete. Sustainability and community participation are priorities, reflected in the design of unique thresholds and a reusable structure. This approach aims for a resilient future for Iloilo, strengthening the connection between architecture and the community.
