My study of Home centers on the contexts that shape conceptions of home and domesticity in contemporary architecture history. In particular, my research focuses on three questions. First, how did early scholars in architecture and psychology define home and domesticity in response to their socio-political contexts? Second, how are these conceptions challenged in contemporary contexts such as 2020 Shelter-in-place order? And finally, how are the emerging views on the meaning of home revealing the impact of physical and virtual spaces in human health and wellbeing? These questions are relevant because the meaning of home depends upon the discipline and context in which it is defined and the unprecedented context of COVID-19 sets a unique opportunity to study the role of the built environment in human regulation.
