El espacio íntimo no está únicamente asociado al espacio privado y doméstico, sin embargo las nociones de privacidad e intimidad están emparentadas a la idea de casa. Mientras el lugar íntimo no se resuma al espacio de proyección individual, la necesidad revelada por el individuo a lo largo de la historia de poseer un espacio propio configura una categoría de planteamiento íntimo ante el espacio. Aunque pertenezca a un ámbito inmaterial, la intimidad se busca, en las páginas siguientes, en lo arquitectónico a través de la observación de algunos espacios individuales.
Se identifican imágenes del habitar individual y espacios de reclusión individual. Se observa en los momentos inicial y final de la vida el exponente máximo de aislamiento y de unidad, la imagen del espacio intrauterino y una idea de lo fúnebre planean sobre el cotidiano, infundiéndolo también de la necesidad de aislamiento. La reclusión se podrá procesar a partir de distintas motivaciones. En este sentido se ha identificado el espacio del ermitaño, el espacio de retiro y el espacio de la exclusión.
Cercado el ámbito del espacio individual surge como necesaria la tarea de oponer el individuo al mundo, pues no existe dentro sin fuera, como no hay día sin noche, ni el ser individual existe sin que pueda plantearse ante otros que confirmen su existencia. En este sentido se plantea el habitante individual ante la inmensidad, ante la exposición y ante la extrañeza.
Para que un viaje sea completo hay que regresar al punto de partida lo que en este contexto significó un regreso del individuo a sí mismo, pero en este punto mediado por el artificio, es decir, se planteó el individuo ante el espejo: ante la naturaleza, ante el arte y ante la tecnología.
El último capítulo surge como la configuración de un conjunto de espectros que se habían vislumbrado a lo largo del trabajo y que tienen en la última parte la posibilidad de cruzarse y generar nuevas lecturas. La motivación en percibir de que formas el concepto de intimidad se cruza con las problemáticas implícitas en el concebir y experimentar el espacio se va destilando a lo largo del trabajo: se identifican afinidades entre lo que podrá parecer ajeno, se admiten escisiones entre lo que se enseña uno, y se observan temas que por tan vinculados a las experiencias más banales del habitar se encuentran a menudo en el olvido.
Este trabajo no es más que un acercamiento a las cuestiones más elementales del proyecto de arquitectura de alguien que más allá de experimentar el espacio como habitante se dispone también a pensarlo.

The intimate space is not exclusively associated with the private and domestic domains, although the notions of privacy and domesticity are impregnated with the idea of home. Even if the intimate space cannot be reduced to the space of individual projection, the need of each individual to have a space of his or her own, revealed throughout the course of history, constitutes a category of intimate questioning of the space. Although having an immaterial nature, intimacy is searched in the architectonic domain, in the following pages, through the observation of some individual spaces.
Images of the individual inhabiting and spaces of individual reclusion were identified. In life’s initial and final moments we can observe isolation and unity in their utmost expression; the image of the intrauterine space and the idea of the funeral glide over everyday’s life, also inspiring the need for isolation. The process of reclusion may have different motivations, of which we identified the hermit, the retreat and the exclusion spaces.
Having closed the scope of the individual space, there is a need to oppose the individual to the world, since there is no inside without an outside, as there is no day without night neither will the individual exist without raising himself before the others that confirm its own existence. In this sense the individual inhabitant raises himself in face of the immensity, the exposure and the strangeness.
For a trip to be complete, one must return to the point of departure which, in this context, meant a return of the individual to himself. Nevertheless this return is mediated by the artifice, that is to say, by facing the mirror: thus the individual before nature, art and technology.
The last chapter emerges as a configuration of a set of specters, previously glimpsed at along the present work that found in this part the opportunity to connect and configure different meanings. The motivation to understand how the concept of intimacy connects with the problems underling the conceiving and experiencing of space is a transversal motivation throughout this research work: we identify affinities between apparently foreign subjects, recognize excisions in otherwise unique entities and observe themes linked to banal inhabiting experiences that tend to find themselves lost in oblivion.
This thesis isn’t more than an approach to the more elemental questions of the architectonical project, elaborated by someone that besides experimenting space as an inhabitant is disposed to think it.
