Propuesta para el concurso internacional Iceland Trekking Cabins. Diseño de un refugio de montaña para senderistas.

Between lava fields, hot springs, mountains and glaciers, “Hito”, a new trecking refuge, will arise in different spots around Iceland. It is a tower and it is concieved to be an iconic landmark integrated on the landscape.

The project emerges from 3 principles: durability, integration and sustainability. Durability means the construction will last dozens of years. Integration means the proyect will become a landmark itself within the context. Sustainability means the tower will be self-sufficient and its construction cost effective.

The material is another principle itself. Concrete provides serenity and hikers will perceive monumentality while approaching Hito at the end of their course. Like an eroded stone, black tones and a rough texture in its walls will anchor the tower to every Icelandic scenery.
