  • ‘Abstract’-a gaztelaniaz

  • ‘Abstract’-a ingelesez
  • The territory can be seen as medium composition and population of room and people, and also as something that is different from both and makes them. This definition is akin to using disciplines like Ethology (in the case of territorial animal behavior), Ecology (habitat and biocenosis), and the same object of Political Geography. For a time was the ethical core of architectural knowledge.

This thesis deals with the separation of these two components as a necessary step to achieve monopoly power to decide on the living (and thus on life) of others. Just it is our profession since the nineteenth century. It is therefore a study of power relations and systems of government that we called biopolitics: the art of use the artificial environment to mold human subjects (particularly the modern nuclear family).

This is a chronicle of this process, specially about what has happened in the nineteenth century. A significant portion is devoted to the current processes and the crisis in our knowledge. Emergency and evolution of the modern territory. Meanwhile the territory without adjectives, is emerging everywhere, now as an geoworld-cyberworld hybrid. Thus the conceptual region of territory (G. Deleuze and F. Guattari: for them concept is territorial), in turn underlies every architecture. Or put another way, the territory as the main condition of every built space.

Therefore, territory is the methodological unit of any analysis-synthesis about architecture and urbanism. The concept is proposed as a tool. To do what? For thinking. The truth of the tool lies in its actions. Only when composed with domains of knowledge to make them fertile, to transform and be transformed.

The document consists of ten chapters totaling 54 points. Although the bulk of these are about the typical objects of architectural practice, including the urban sistem and its infrastructures (and its multidisciplinary practice, urban planning), attention is paid to issues related to the cyberworld, machine technology, economics policy, governmentality and biopolitics, sociology, networks ... and finally, philosophical thought.

These sections do not follow a sequential order, are rather a hypertext, so enjoy relative autonomy, but linked by a web of references. This can be read or edited separately.
