SANTIAGO REY PEDREIRA. CONSTRUCTOR DE IDEAS

 El objetivo central de esta Tesis es analizar y dar a conocer a Santiago Rey Pedreira, el hombre y su obra (su Arquitectura). Que, en nuestra opinión, es una figura desconocida e injustamente olvidada. Demostrar la importancia de su presencia y de su obra en la construcción de la ciudad de La Coruña entre 1928 y 1977.

Rey Pedreira introdujo y desarrolló como nadie la Arquitectura Racionalista y los principios del Movimiento Moderno en la Galicia de los años 30. Desde entonces hasta su muerte, en 1977,  su producción arquitectónica representó un experimento continuo aportando obras innovadoras al panorama arquitectónico español en la mitad central del siglo XX, construyendo sus ideas.

El conocimiento del trabajo de Rey Pedreira implicará un intenso aprendizaje sobre el proceso de concepción de ideas y el arte de construirlas. La estructuración y presentación del estudio, de manera didáctica, dará pistas para facilitar esta labor de aprendizaje.

También es intención de este trabajo de investigación abrir nuevas puertas en el estudio del arquitecto Rey Pedreira. Que suponga el inicio del estudio, documentación, protección, conservación y divulgación de su legado.

SANTIAGO REY PEDREIRA. BUILDER OF IDEAS

The main objective of this Thesis is to analyze and make known to Santiago Rey Pedreira, the man and his work (his architecture). That, in our opinion, is an unknown figure and unjustly forgotten. Demonstrate the importance of his presence and his work in building the city of La Coruna between 1928 and 1977.

Rey Pedreira as the main protagonist in the introduction and development of Rationalist architecture and principles of the Modern Movement in Galicia, in the 30's. From then until his death in 1977, his architectural output was a continuous experiment providing innovative works to the Spanish architectural scene in the middle half of the twentieth century, building his ideas.

Knowledge of the work of Rey Pedreira will involve an intense learning about the process of developing ideas and the art of building them. The structure and presentation of the study, in a didactic way, give clues to facilitate this learning.

It is also intention of this research to open new doors in the studio of architect Rey Pedreira. That means the start of the study, documentation, protection, preservation and disclosure of his legacy.
