There are two ways to participate: academic record and contest. You can choose to participate in one or both of them simultaneously. 10 scholarships are available for each modality. To ensure proper geographical distribution of the scholarships, this will be weighted in proportion to the number of valid registrations received by centre and modality.
Academic Record
Candidates will be selected on the basis of their academic record. This will be evaluated by the average of the marks obtained in the subjects passed in the degree course, as well as by the average of the marks obtained in the subjects passed in Projects (for this purpose, all those that depend on the Architectural Projects Department will be considered). These average grades will be calculated by the applicant, as specified in Annex I of the Terms and Conditions.
2012 Contest
Students will be selected on the basis of the material submitted to the contest.
Information may be edited until registration deadline.
Academic record
Once the registration has been completed, access the private user area with your e-mail and password credentials and enter the average of the grades described above in the box provided for this purpose (section scholarships, option 'edit participation')
Subsequently, preselected participants will be required to submit their academic records in PDF format.
2012 Contest: 'Penance'
Once the registration has been completed, access the private user area with your e-mail and password credentials, and attach the required documents and complete the required fields.
Required material:
A DIN A-1 in PDF format.
The maximum size allowed for the PDF file is 5 Mb.
Proposals submitted by means other than the Internet or received after the call has been closed will not be accepted. Submissions must be made individually. To ensure the anonymity of the participant before the jury, the files sent must omit personal data. Delivered material must include, in a clear and visible way, the motto chosen by the contestant and their school of origin. The jury's decision will be final. The Foundation reserves the right to reproduce and/or exhibit all or part of the proposals submitted to the contest.

Eduardo Arroyo was born in Bilbao in 1964 and obtained a degree in Architecture and Urban Planning in 1988 from the Madrid ETSAM. Since then, he has been professor and speaker around the world. NO.MAD was founded in Amsterdam in 1989 and has its headquarters in Madrid since 1996. Our work has received several awards and has been published and exhibited in several languages. Some of our essential works include the Lasesarre Football Stadium, Casa Levene, Guardería de Sondika, Plaza Desierto, Arquia Bank and Casa Zafara-Uceda, among others. The work of our studio combines accuracy, chance and the need to always search for the unknown.
In a delicate moment for the social image of our profession, to reflect on how it has achieved an essential role in the great real estate plundering can be a good warning sign for those who aspire to join this profession. We know of the potential that architecture has to improve the world and to create several ways of living in it, and we also know of its opposite potential to destroy ways of living and landscapes when it is in the wrong hands. Knowing already the characters involved in the collapse of our economy and the social 'Big Fraud', we will imagine a contradictory architecture capable of activating the best of the landscape and that serves at the same time as a penance for its users. Stunned by the impunity shown by the justice system in our country, those involved will be sent to a place of more advanced justice and extreme climate to reflect on their excesses.
The 7 characters:
A mayor
A town-planning councillor
An architect
A promoter
A banker
A jury of recognised prestige
A speculative citizen
The place:
Longyearbyen Fjord on the island of Svalbard (Norway). 78º14'00.51"N 15º33'23.90"E
The Conditions:
They will be housed in self-sufficient 'mini flats', the product of their speculative nightmare, which, in accordance with the peculiar idiosyncrasies of each character, will be organised in a totally free and imaginative manner.
The season of captivity will be a full year, six months at night (average temperature -10ºC) and six months during the day (average temperature 0ºC).
The inmates must be able to contemplate the wonderful landscape outside but not use it, they must be able to see each other but not touch each other, they must be able to be contemplated by multiple organised tours of those Spaniards they ruined.
It is understood that all necessary services and supplies are guaranteed from the nearby village.
