LUCIEN HERVÉ (1910-2007) is a benchmark as regards stories about relationships between photography and modern architecture. His 1949 documentary on the Unité d'habitation in Marseille captivated Le Corbusier, after which he became his official photographer until the death of the great modern architect in 1965. This intense relationship is a paradigmatic case of synergy between architects and their photographers with an emphasis on the plastic, formal and visual values of the images of Hervé, of whom Le Corbusier said he had "the soul of an architect".

The LUCIEN HERVÉ documentary. RELUCTANT PHOTOGRAPHER (2013), directed by Gerrit Messiaen, presents for the first time a close and direct insight into the intense biography of the photographer and highlights how his career and international recognition are based precisely on the authentic, simple, rigorous and passionate strokes of his character and life principles. In this context, the critical fortunes of his activity as a photographer find their full meaning and confirm the permanent value and inexhaustible pedagogy with which he viewed and built, scissors in hand, the image of architecture.
