I Call for Scholarships in Social Entrepreneurship

1 Scholarship in Social Entrepreneurship in Barcelona Activa

  • Requirements
  • The Arquia Foundation, in collaboration with Barcelona Activa, has announced one Social Entrepreneurship Grant aimed at developing a sustainable business project with a strong social component, in order to encourage and support the creation of business initiatives that aim to achieve a positive impact in society by solving current population problems, from a social or environmental point of view.

    • Aim
    • The grant aims to:

      • Promote the culture of entrepreneurship and business initiative as an engine of economic growth by supporting innovative proposals in areas related to Social Entrepreneurship.

      • Provide candidates with knowledge and tools to complement their entrepreneurial skills and enable them to make their business projects a reality.

      • Promote new entrepreneurship projects that have emerged from values such as effort, drive and innovation.

    • Candidates
    • Professionals with degrees in Social Sciences, Legal Sciences, Arts, Humanities, Sciences, Health Sciences, Economics, Business Sciences, Engineering and Architecture from a Spanish university or from abroad and approved in Spain, who have a Spanish residence permit, or multidisciplinary teams, mainly composed of professionals, with a viable, creative and innovative business idea, may apply for the grant.

      The project can be developed by one or more members of a studio/company/group.

      Candidates who have already been awarded a social entrepreneurship grant by the Arquia Foundation in previous calls are not eligible to apply for the grant.

    • Call opening: 20 April 2017
      Registration period: From 20 April 2017 to 20 June 2017 at 12:00 pm
      Development of the Programme: Pending confirmation by Barcelona Activa. Planned to start in October 2017, ending in April 2018.

    • Documentation and submission
    • The required documentation can be sent through the 'registration' form until the closing date of the call (30 June 2017 - 12:00 pm).

  • Registration
  • The registration process is completed via the Arquia Foundation web platform, and is formalised according to the following points:

    • Registration in this call can only be completed online via the Arquia Foundation platform.

    • To be able to start the registration, prior accreditation on the Arquia Foundation platform is required for those who are not already AF users or who have not yet been accredited.

    • The application is made when the registration form has been completed and the required documentation for the call has been attached. Proposals submitted by means other than the Internet will not be accepted.

    • The jury's decision is final.

    • The Foundation reserves the right to reproduce and/or exhibit the proposals selected from the tender either partially or in their entirety.

  • Assessment criteria
  • Applications will be assessed by the jury, taking the following criteria into consideration:

    • CV with the professional and academic achievements of the applicant and/or each member of the team, to assess the leadership capacity, commitment and motivation in terms of the business project.

    • Report of the proposed project for the grant, assessing its originality and feasibility. Canvas Analysis.

    Tutors and members of the jury may contact candidates directly to arrange a personal interview if they deem it necessary, in order to clarify aspects of the idea or project.

  • Assessment criteria
  • We believe in projects with great potential, which must meet the following criteria:

    • Originality of the business idea: It must be a creative and innovative idea that provides a new working approach and contributes meaningfully to the social field.

    • The business idea must have a clear, well-ordered and legible structure, and be based on a market opportunity with enough potential to generate revenues.

    • Innovative business model with a high capacity to generate value and strong growth potential.

    • The project should permit a viable market entry: clear and realistic goals, definition of strategies and necessary resources for implementation, careful planning and a detailed budget.

    • Capacity and leadership of the entrepreneur or entrepreneurial team: the candidate must have strong qualifications and knowledge and must demonstrate the skills to carry out the project successfully.

  • Endowment
  • The scholarship includes a seat in the Social Entrepreneurship Program of Barcelona Activa consisting of sessions distributed once a week over 6 months that include training for the elaboration of the business plan, training in entrepreneurial skills, follow-up tutorials and entrepreneurial experiences.

    Apart from the services and resources of Barcelona Activa, the Arquia Foundation puts at the disposal of the entrepreneurs who have received a scholarship as of the first day, one (1) advisor of recognized prestige in professional development management related to the field of Architecture who will tutor them during the whole project by means of face-to-face and online sessions. This mentoring will be oriented to decision making and will guide them through the whole process of preparing the business plan and analysing its feasibility. It will also provide the scholarship holder, within its possibilities, with the contacts and information required to work on its business project successfully. In this edition, Monica Bonafonte, director of the Escola Sert of the COAC, will be in charge of tutoring the scholarship holder.

    With the aim of equalizing participation opportunities in the territory, the Arquia Foundation will subsidize the scholarship holder with an economic endowment of €7,000 as aid for travel expenses, to allow the scholar to travel to attend all the sessions in Barcelona Activa as well as their team, when they deem appropriate to join the training sessions.

    The Arquia Foundation will provide coverage in the terms and conditions of the travel assistance policy taken out through the Arquiseguros brokerage for the scholarship holder.
