VI Arquia/Next Festival 2018
'RELEVANT PRACTICES'
The Arquia/next cultural programme aims to offer support to Spanish architects in the first ten years of their professional career, and is based on the diffusion, promotion and appreciation of their achievements and principles as professionals.
Arquia/next showcases the projects of the next generations of Spanish architects, published and explained by their authors. It is an open site for those who want to know and locate the new emerging Spanish architecture, and aims to become a benchmark that connects with young architects and in turn helps to understand the current context and concerns of young Spanish architecture.
The motto for this biennial is RELEVANT PRACTICES and has been defined by the curator, Iñaki Carnicero, who invites us to reflect on the paradox produced by the international success of Spanish architecture, which is not consistent with the volume of architectural production in recent years, but nevertheless reflects work that is more relevant than ever.
This meeting with young national architecture took place in Madrid on 17 and 18 October and was attended by Iñaki Carnicero, curator of the biennial, and the jury formed by Pilar Díaz from Paisaje Transversal, Héctor Fernández Elorza, Iñigo García (VAUMM Arquitectura), María González (Sol89 Arquitectos), Montserrat Nogués, patron and representative of Arquia Foundation and Anna Puigjaner (MAIO Arquitectura).
The authors of the 24 projects selected for this biennial also participated: deAbajoGarcía, Adrià Escolano, Estudio rellam, Juan Miguel Martínez, Nua Arquitectures, Serrano + Baquero, Rosa Gallardo, Gonzalo Gutiérrez, Joel Padrosa, Ander Rodríguez, Carmen Torres, Arqbag, Arquimaña, Arquitectura Expandida, Cornago & Sánchez, Eeestudio + Zuloark, After Belonging Agency, José Aragüez, Arquitectura a Contrapelo, Bartlebooth, Nomad Garden, Vilaplana & Vilaplana.
