Awards ceremony

The 2016 Scholarship award ceremony took place on Thursday 19 October in the Auditorium of the Universidad de Málaga within the framework of the events of the 2016 Arquia/Next Forum 'Imperfect Future'. The event was attended by the architect Jordi Badia, jury member of the 2016 Scholarship contest with the lecture entitled "Moving forward looking backwards", and the architect Manuel Aires Mateus with the presentation of the topic of the 2016 contest entitled "Inhabiting a space within another space".

JORDI BADÍA

Barcelona 1961. ETSAB architect since 1989.
Founder and director of the BAAS architecture studio. In addition to his work as an architect, he is professor of the Architectural Projects Department of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB). 
He also works as a columnist for the ARA newspaper and is editor of the architecture blog HIC. Together with Félix Arranz, he was curator of VOGADORS, the exhibition he presented to Catalonia and the Balearic Islands in the 13th Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2012.
Among his most recent work is Museo Can Framis (Ciudad de Barcelona Award 2009 and the FAD Opinion Award), the refurbishment of the Oliva Artés factory as the Museo de Historia de Barcelona MUHBA, the office building ALTA DIAGONAL and the FAD headquarters.
Currently, the studio is building a university of cinema, radio and television in the city of Katowice in the South of Poland, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center headquarters in Barcelona, a residential building in Palma de Mallorca, among other projects.

2017 Topic Presentation

MANUEL AIRES MATEUS

Manuel Aires Mateus was born in Lisbon in 1963. He graduated from the "Faculdade de Arquitectura / U.T.L" in 1986. He began collaborating with Ar. Gonçalo Byrne in 1983 and started to develop his own projects with his brother Francisco in 1988. The Aires Mateus studio was initially created by the two brothers, taking a space in the studio of Ar. Gonçalo Byrne during his early years. The increasing scale of projects, forced them to establish in an autonomous space, to respond to the growing demands of work. Since then the scale and number of projects has been proliferating, resulting in several national and international architectural awards. The visibility of their work resulted in invitations to participate in conferences and teach in several institutions. The Graduate School of Design in Harvard, the Accademia di Architetura in Mendrízio as well as others in Portugal. The structure currently includes two studios, both in Lisbon, having established several collaborations with local studios for the realization of projects of international level.

4. deliverables -a horizontal A1 format image, of 72 dpi, .PDF format and of a 12 Mb maximum size.
The graphic information to be required will be a short story, a diagram and a reference image, one or several selected elements, among plants, elevations, sections, perspectives, axonometry, photomontage, collages, drawings, sketches, photographs of models, infographics... to communicate and transmit the spatial experience of this proposal.
