The German Pavilion in Barcelona

The German Pavilion in Barcelona: a synthesis of modernity

The German Pavilion in Barcelona was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich as the German pavilion for the Barcelona International Exhibition held in Montjuïc in 1929. It was dismantled a year later.

Over time, the Pavilion became a benchmark both in Mies' career and in 20th century architecture. In 1980, Oriol Bohigas drove the initiative to rebuild it from the Barcelona City Council's Urban Planning Department and Ignasi de Solà-Morales, Cristian Cirici, Fernando Ramos and Isabel Bach were the architects responsible for returning this iconic work to Barcelona.

This cycle includes a collection of documentaries, interviews and debates on the history of the Pavilion, on its reconstruction and on the role played by this work in the history of architecture.
